On our trip to India we encountered many unique sights. One such place is the Marwari merchant homes at Shekhawati in the province of Rajasthan. Part of the intrigue is the opulent dereliction of the mansions of which construction started in the 14th century. Many of the frescoes are located on the exterior of the mansions while a few others are open to visit.
Once inside, you get a sense of how much effort was made to beautify the homes. The structures are multi-storied with an open courtyard and arched columns. An architects dream.
The puzzling part is that the mansions sit vacant and largely abandoned.
Last couple of shots from the town. Just one of those out of the way interesting and quiet places to visit.
