The craftsmanship of the carved rock that comprises the Ranakpur Jain Temple is unbelievable. The scale and detail of the marble rock carvings is mind-boggling. When you consider that it was built in the 1400's and is reputed to have taken 2785 workers 50 years to construct it starts to all make sense.
The outside of the building is impressive indeed, but it is when you step through the door that your jaw drops. There are 1444 columns, each carved from floor to ceiling and each completely unique.
There are a number of notable carved stones of intricate and complicated design but it is the domes that are most impressive. The underside is carved as fine as lace on a scale that leaves you scratching your head.
All in all, the Ranakpur Jaine temple has the finest carved stone that we have ever seen.
