Iceland's Eden - Gjain Valley

There is little wonder that this valley was a set for the Game of Thrones series. It is truly a Eden of green vegetation, clear blue streams and a number of waterfalls surrounded by barren volcanic lava fields.

Our guide book pointed out that the site could only be accessed by a four-wheel drive vehicle and the road signs certainly confirmed that to be a fact. The reality was quite different in that our cheap rental sedan had no problem providing access to the site. A photo of the access road below.

As we got closer, anticipation grew with the spotting of a stone cairn. These are common throughout Iceland and can be seen from a distance.

Just a few more steps and we were upon the valley and what a sight it was.

We hiked down into the valley to check out every nook and cranny. We had the place to ourselves for a couple of hours. Simply wonderful.

It was only day two of our trip and we were already hooked.
