Angkor Thom - The Hall of Faces

If Angkor Watt is the largest of the Angkor temples, Angkor Thom is certainly the most intriguing.

From a distance it is difficult to see the degree of detail that went into constructing this temple. Each column has four giant faces carved into it that face each direction.

We arrived at the temple at sunrise so we had the place to ourselves, though we had to tolerate a few monkeys which added to the intrigue. We began our exploration by walking around the outside of the temple before diving in.

In the end, we couldn't take enough photos. The subject matter was simply too overwhelming and cool. The scale of the lichen covered rocks was simply amazing. We had to keep reminding ourselves that this temple was only one of dozens of temples.
