Ancient Australian Aborigine Rock Art

This rock art is located in Australia's Northern Territory, east of Darwin, in the Kakadu National Park. Some of this art is old, and I mean old. Some of it dates back 20,000 years. It is estimated that you can find rock art in this area at more than 5000 locations. We were fortunate enough to visit a few and captured photos of some of the more interesting art.

Most of the art has survived so well because it was painted on rock faces that are protected from the elements by overhanging rock. The photo below is a typical location to find the rock paintings. It is remarkable that the hand prints in the second photo are located on the underside of the rock overhang in the first photo.
