Following the Rhine River South of Koblenz, Germany
Updated: Mar 22
Our only experience with the Rhine River was joining it at Koblenz and following it south to Mainz. We cannot speak to the rest of the river but the towns and villages along that stretch were amazingly cute. The buildings were fairy-tale like. Hansel and Gretel themselves could not have assembled more idyllic settings. Many of the houses were old, crooked, timber and plaster buildings. Some were built as early as the 1600's. The towns were impeccably clean and decorated with flowers. Throw in some gothic churches, castles, vineyards in the hills and meandering river and well, there you have it.
The photos in this post were taken retro style. They were taken with film: point, shoot and find out how it all turned out about a month after you get home when pick them up from the photo store.
We landed in Frankfurt, picked up our 'der kombiwagen' (not exactly the fine German-engineered auto we had anticipated when we made our booking) and we were off to explore.
